Opportunities for Service

Choir and Musicians. An important part of a Lutheran Worship service is music. Whether it be congregational singing, an instrumental piece or music sung by a choir music contributes to the experience of worship. If you would like to be involved we are always looking for voices to join our adult choir. The Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings during the school year at 7:30. We also can use anyone with a talent and the ability to play an instrument. If you would be interested in helping in our worship in this way. Contact Mr. Donn Hempel at 708-562-5580 x205.

Altar Guild Service. Worship is an event filled with symbolism and rituals, and sacraments. All of which take work and planning to be a part of the worship service. There is a group of people who volunteer their time to make sure the various furnishings, appointments, materials and supplies are set up and prepared for worship. This group is known as our Altar Guild. Volunteers need no special skills except to love the Lord and be willing servants. Male and Females are welcome and all ages above Junior high are eligible to serve. If you are interested please contact Mrs. Barb Arndt at 630-655-0797.

Worship at Immanuel is Many Things

WORSHIP is first and foremost about God! It is about God Speaking to us in song, word and the proclamation of the Gospel.  It is God and God alone that is worthy of receiving our thanks and praise. We gather together to experience God working in our hearts and minds.

WORSHIP is also in a way about us as believers.  For it is in worship that we come before God and confess that we have fallen short of the goals he has given us for living life.  We lay before God these shortcomings and here the Pastor speaks the forgiveness of God that Christ authorizes him to speak. Then as forgiven children of God we hear God's word proclaimed to us and are fed and nourished with his body and blood in the sacrament.

WORSHIP is a participatory event.  We are not passive spectators watching a performance rather we are participants in an event where we are strengthened and prepared for our daily living as well as the ministry of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with those who do not know Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

WORSHIP is a joyous voluntary activity of believers who follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  We come together not out of an obligation or rule but because God is here with us when we gather together in worship and we want to be where God is.

WORSHIP is also community.  We come together to do all these things with others who believe as we do, these people are our family, they are our brothers and sisters in Christ. They accept us for who we are and encourage and support us in our daily walk. In a time of electronic communication it is important to be a part of a physical community that gathers together in worship, fellowship and service.
